Treatments for Cavities

Along with pediatric fillings, 1385 Dental Studio offers a few other services to restore your child’s mouth and protect them from cavities.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) uses a mixture of silver, ammonia, fluoride, and water. This solution is applied directly to the decayed tooth, and it kills the bacteria and prevents further deterioration of the tooth. This is a great non-invasive alternative to fillings. However, it does permanently discolor the tooth, so it’s only recommended for use on baby teeth.

Dental fillings & Stainless Steel Crowns

Dental fillings are great for treating small cavities and in cases of more extensive tooth decay, we may recommend stainless steel crowns. They require minimal tooth preparation, are pre-fitted for your child’s mouth, and offer superior protection compared to fillings, particularly for large cavities.

Space Maintainers

If your child has a baby tooth that falls out early due to oral trauma, they may need a space maintainer. These small, metal or plastic dental devices are placed in the gap where their baby tooth used to be. They prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting, and ensure your child’s adult tooth can grow properly.

Pulpotomies

If your child has an infected baby tooth, they may need a pulpotomy. In this procedure, Dr. Mustafa will open the tooth and remove any decayed material, then clean the tooth and seal it with a crown or filling to protect it from further damage. This usually prevents premature tooth loss from decay. The goal of this treatment is to preserve baby teeth in until they are replaced with adult teeth. Without baby teeth in place, chewing function, normal speech patterns, and proper jaw formation can be affected.
